Why did you choose to train at Cheshire Digital Skills Academy?
 
I had been on a course with the principals of Cheshire Digitals Skills Academy at West Cheshire College, Handbridge and found them both inspirational and knowledgeable.  When the IT department closed it was a natural progression to join them at CDSA and has been very rewarding.

What course are you taking/did you take?

I learnt how to do a website, and a blog. I have also produced a book on CreateSpace and are now working on a video.

How has or will the course help you?
 
My skills have improved to a high standard. I have been able to use social media far more efficiently for promotion of my work.
 
What advice would you give a new student?
 
Join the academy – you can’t go wrong.

What are your skills/background?
 
My previous skills are with quill pen and hand-bell so this has been a major leap for me from Tudor technology to the 21st century. 

Why did you choose to train at Cheshire Digital Skills Academy?
 
I first met Bev when I joined her course Online Publishing and found her to be a very friendly and patient tutor so I was confident she would be the right person to expand my digital skills.

What course are you taking/did you take?
 
I enrolled on a Digital Skills course covering Advanced Word skills.

How has or will the course help you?
 
I particularly wanted to get help to prepare my typescript to my new book, ‘The Word on the Street’ so that it would be in a format suitable for a printer. 

What advice would you give a new student?
 
I doubt you will find friendlier tutors anywhere and the tea and biscuits are fantastic!

What are your skills/background?
 
I was originally a Legal Executive but gave up work 20 years ago when I had the first of my four children. For the last 8 years I have successfully run my own retail gift and flower business, but I wanted to move away from retail and it was time for change in direction which has led to the recent sale of my business.
 
After years of doing my own bookkeeping I am seeking to go into a career in Accounts and have recently being studying the AAT accounts courses. I soon realised that I was also greatly lacking the skills in Excel that I would require to work in Accounts having been out of the workplace for such a long time which is why I have attended the Cheshire Digital Skills Academy. 

Why did you choose to train at Cheshire Digital Skills Academy?
 
I came across the Cheshire Digital Skills Academy on the Chester blog. For a while I had been looking for a course to help improve my skills, but most were online courses or were aimed at the commercial market or unaffordable. The individual workshops were just ideal for what I was looking for and flexible so could fit in around my other commitments. 

What course are you taking/did you take?
 
Level 1 Word and Excel

How has or will the course help you?
 
The course has given me a much greater confidence to go back into the workplace and has equipped me with some of the necessary skills I need. 

What advice would you give a new student?
 
If you are like myself and have been out of the workplace for quite some time it can be quite daunting when you feel so out of date with technology -  but don’t be afraid , both Bev and Jayne are incredibly friendly and helpful and before long you feel that your skills are improving and gives you a much greater confidence to return to work.
